Server side tracking stopped being optional

Automated bidding is only as good as the signal you feed it. Bad signal plus a large budget is a fast way to lose money confidently.

Why the old setup degraded

Browser side tracking has been eroded steadily by privacy controls, consent requirements and platform changes. Nothing broke on a particular day, which is exactly why it is easy to miss. The numbers simply got quietly less true.

What that does to bidding

Every smart bidding strategy is optimising against the conversions it can see. Feed it a partial and biased sample and it will confidently optimise toward the wrong customers, then report success against its own incomplete picture.

What a good setup includes

Server side tagging, consent mode implemented properly rather than as a banner, offline conversions imported so a sale that closes on the phone gets back to the platform, and value passed rather than a flat conversion count.

What this means for you

If your platform reported conversions and your actual sales have drifted apart over the last two years, that gap is the problem, not the campaigns.

What we are doing about it

We rebuild measurement before we touch spend on any new account. It is the least visible work we do and it is usually the thing that makes everything after it work.

I check these against the original source before publishing, and I will send you the source if you want to see it. I do not quote a number I have not read myself.

Tell us where you are trying to get to.

Bring the two year picture, not this quarter's fire. You get a straight view on what has to happen first, and roughly what it costs.
